Stuck at thumb join

I'm stuck, can anyone give me any tips? I've just put the thumb onto the two needles, but don't know how to knit from here. The working yarn is before the 8 thumb stitches, so if I make a new stitch from the first thumb stitch (next to the stitch marker) I can't slip off the stitch as the other stitches are in the way. I know it'll be something stupid I'm doing, but can anyone help to save me from botching and frogging later today please?

When the pattern says "Place thumb sts on 2 needles, placing 7[8, 9] sts on each needle," put the thumb stitches on two seperate needles (not the ones you have the fingers on). You can knit from there.

Yeah, it's gotta be on 2 more needles, not the same two, looks great though... you can do it!!

Thanks so much, I was having a mental block - you know when you can't see for looking too much! It's such a great pattern, I hope to finish this one tonight.

I have a mental block on SSK. Always. And since there are a fair number in this pattern, I run to the computer everytime I get to it and watch a video... and I still don't get it! I think I'm doing it all right but it doesn't seem that way to me. I knit kind of backwards anyway. ;)

I am so glad I'm not the only one who was BAFFLED by that direction! I put the thumb on the two needles like directed (trapping the working yarn), and then moved the half of the thumb stitches closest to the working yarn onto a third needle.

LOL! I made the same mistake. Mind you, I only had a set of 4 dpns, not 5, so I pretty much HAD to knit it that way. Do I get points for actually knitting the first row or two with the needles the way Lunamoth has them in the picture? ;)
